Matt Reynolds CFA, MFA-P™
EVP, Referral Network
Hailing from Vermilion, Alberta with family roots in Saskatchewan, Matt found himself constantly trying to reconcile why real asset and alternative investing were largely ignored in his university finance textbooks. After graduating from McGill University he started his career in a Toronto investment dealership focused on public equities. Within a few years, Matt made the jump to an analyst role at a private equity-focused M&A firm in Boston. In 2002 he discovered Newport – which aligned with his ideal approach to alternative asset exposure and prioritized risk management culture.
During his early career, Matt worked within the firm’s corporate finance and private equity services and assisted on the advisory of more than $1 billion of corporate advisory mandates for the firm’s clients, raced several Ironman triathlons and attained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. In 2012 Matt co-founded the firm’s referral network, which provides Newport’s investment management capabilities to more than 1,500 households across the country.
Matt has acted as Vice Chair of the Private Capital Markets Association of Canada, and at home is an unpaid chauffeur within the Beaches neighbourhood of Toronto, offering well-curated dad jokes for a passenger manifest that includes swim clubs, hockey teams and hapkido classmates. He can be found happily on a piano bench or behind a drum set repenting the fact that he ignored musical theory in his youth.
