Jamie MacNicol, CIM®

Jamie MacNicol grew up in a family of overachievers. “In a good way,” he says, explaining that it was an environment that nurtured collaboration and teamwork as the path to success. “My parents instilled a sense of hard work, accountability, and, above all, trust that formed the foundation of who I am today.”

Jamie’s love of all things finance comes from his family roots too. From trying to understand the stock market at his grandfather’s side, to having family members who were traders and financial advisors, Jamie has long had an affinity for this world.

After earning his Bachelor of Business Management from Dalhousie University, Jamie worked with wealth advisors across Canada for 10 years at Assante Wealth Management, where he most recently served as Associate Regional Vice President.

Newport’s independent status, along with the team culture, is what made Jamie excited to join in January 2023. “After my first two months at Newport, it felt like a family. It’s a ‘how can we work together? How can I help you?’ approach.”

Jamie’s work focuses on proposal development and projection analysis for new and existing clients. He holds the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) designation, which focuses on leadership, strategy, finance, accounting, management operations, and organizational analysis.

A Toronto native, Jamie recently purchased his first home with his fiancée and their golden retriever, Billy. A die-hard Leafs fan, sports are a big part of Jamie’s life, with hockey and golf being particular passions. Travelling is also high on his list. Jamie tries never to visit the same place twice and always incorporates some type of activity—whether skiing, hiking, or whatever the destination is known for.
