Russ Hafer, CFP®, CIM®, FCSI®
Client Relationship Manager
From participating in the Little League World Series at the age of 12 to playing rugby and football at his alma mater, Simon Fraser University, Russ Hafer’s lifelong love of sports has always led him to be part of a winning team. It’s something he has aspired to in his professional life as well.
And it’s what led him to join Newport Private Wealth after a distinguished career that started in banking and culminated in the ownership of a highly successful independent insurance and investment advisory business.
“I co-founded what is now Quarry Wealth Management in 2004 because I found the banking industry didn’t allow me the freedom to work with clients in ways that benefited them most fully,” says Russ. “Yet running an advisory firm comes with unique challenges, especially finding good people and great product solutions. In 2013, I was introduced to Newport’s investment platform, and it was a game changer.”
It wasn’t long before Russ saw the results he wanted for his clients. The relationship was so positive that Russ approached Newport and expressed his interest in joining the team. A mutually beneficial relationship has become a wonderful new path for Russ, his clients, and Newport.
Russ was attracted to the power of financial planning early in his career and received his first designation in 1994. The industry has fueled his passion for lifelong learning and led to him earning his CFP®, CIM®, and FCSI® designations.
A Victoria, British Columbia native, Russ lived in both British Columbia and Ontario before making Calgary home in 1994. He is a proud member of the Kinsmen Club of Calgary, which supports the community through philanthropic activities. He is especially proud of the Children’s Hospital Lottery for the Alberta Children’s Hospital, which has raised millions of dollars for children in need.
Russ married his high school sweetheart 38 years ago. Most weekends, they can be found with their extended family at their cabin in Golden, British Columbia. Russ is an avid skier and enjoys hitting the trails on his dirt bike during the summer—passions he has passed on to his five grandchildren.
