Director, Tax and Estate Planning
Daniel works at the intersection of tax, estate planning, and succession planning, advising ultra-high-net-worth clients on decisions with significant long-term financial and personal implications. “Effective planning requires both deep technical expertise and the ability to translate complexity into clear, actionable advice,” he says.
Daniel holds a Bachelor of Management & Organizational Studies (BMOS) with a specialization in Accounting from Western University where he was captain of the men’s lacrosse team. Daniel also holds a Juris Doctorate (JD) from Western University School of Law and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario. He began his career practicing estate planning and litigation after articling at Siskinds LLP in London, Ontario.
He later transitioned into a private wealth advisory role, advising high and ultra-high-net-worth families. During this time, he completed his Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designations. To further deepen his tax expertise, Daniel completed a Master of Taxation (MTax) at the University of Waterloo, including a co-op placement in Deloitte’s Mergers & Acquisitions Tax group.
Most recently, Daniel was a Lead Consultant in the Advanced Planning and Services group at one of Canada's major financial institutions, where he advised ultra-high-net-worth families on succession planning. His practice focused on complex tax and estate planning for clients with net worths typically ranging from $20 million to over $1 billion. Complementing this experience, Daniel has earned the Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) designation — a credential specifically designed for professionals who advise family enterprises on the unique intersection of family dynamics, governance, and wealth transition. This designation reflects Daniel's commitment to understanding not only the technical dimensions of wealth planning, but the deeply personal and relational complexities that define family enterprise succession.
Daniel joins Newport Private Wealth as Director, Tax and Estate Planning, where he works closely with advisors and clients on sophisticated tax, estate, and wealth planning matters. He was drawn to Newport’s independent platform and integrated approach to planning. “Newport’s focus on thoughtful advice and long-term relationships strongly aligned with how I work with clients,” he says.
Daniel won four national championships as the coach of the Western University men’s lacrosse team. In his spare time Daniel enjoys playing hockey, skiing, and adding to his collection of vinyl records.
